anthony correa and matt fuller have decided to take their combined years of experience in pretty much every facet of the skateboard industry and turn it into something a little more physical. offering up a new skate/boutique/gallery space under the name A-FRONT. located at 2205 washington next door to the darkhorse tavern, A-FRONT is like houston's answer to supreme or huf or ftc. with an even stronger emphasis on art. a fully functional gallery space, the shop's grand opening will also be the opening of their first show. featuring the art of GIVE UP and michael sieben, and the photography of travis howell and todd jordan.

christian azul and gonzo 247, the guys behind aerosol warfare, have been deep in houston graffiti since the writers' bench and vhs videos and other things 90s. hosting parties, producing videos, curating gallery shows, and painting murals all in the name of the bigger picture. after a brief hiatus from the gallery scene they have decided to jump back in and re-open their gallery in a new location. this time on hutchins just east of downtown houston next to the old jenni's noodle house. they gave me my first solo show in 2005 and now three years later have offered me another solo show that will coincide with their grand re-opening.
even though these openings are close together hopefully everyone will come out to both, as each show will host a completely different body of work. directions, times, show duration, fliers, and other information soon as the dates draw closer.

lonely days and wasted nights. the book.
the first run of books came in yesterday. i never thought it would actually happen, but now shit's for real.
188 B&W full bleed pages of selected works from 2001 to the beginning of 2008. featuring posters, art, billboards, stencils, street installations, action shots, and all the shit that comes in between. perfect bound paper back 6"x9" with a color cover, the book comes wrapper in a translucent vellum printed dust jacket. packaged together with a 4.5"x6.5" photo card and 20"x30" screen printed poster.
$30 ppd.
after filling pre-orders there are allready very few copies left. contact ingivingup@yahoo.com for purchase information.

austin day trip
after a relatively unproductive trip to corpus a few days ago i was left still feeling the need to take the show on the road. austin's easy and predictable and at least recently has been a generally good time. so why not. didn't really have a solid plan and for the first time in a while actually ran out of posters before glue. being unprepared is more costly after a 2 1/2 hour drive. but i'll still take the result.

i've been working on this book for a while now. not exactly in secret, but it hasn't really been something i wanted to talk about until i knew it was really going to happen. and i'm not really going to say too much about it now other than that i got a finished sample from the publisher and i'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. i'll post more about the book and how to get one when the time comes.
for now i just finished a run of new prints to go along with and promote the book. a little smaller than usual, these are 20"x30". and not a numbered edition. but the same hand screened acrylic on newsprint.
and a super limited tshirt design of the same. printed in water based ink on 100% ringspun cotton tees.

shame.less.
i gave up, gave in, caved in.
popular art culture seems to dictate that in order to validate and legitimize "street art" it is necessary to document the work and then post it on the internet to be worshiped or berated the world wide.
while this is an idea that i still struggle and disagree with i suppose bands want to tour, records want to be distributed, magazine articles want to get published - and i want my shit to be seen by more than just the handful of people who walk past a sticker on a light pole in houston, texas. or poster, stencil, etc in whatever other city i happen to roll through.
so after years of fighting inconsistent internet access, computer illiteracy, personal conflict and reasoning, and factors outside the realm of technology and questionable artistic integrity - i started this blog in february 2007.
because i want proof for both the doubters and the dealers. i want posterity. and i want my ego fellated.
but it didn't take long to realize what legitimate web designers have known long before - that the difficulty doesn't so much lie in creating the site, but in getting people to look at it once it's finished. so just like promotion of the work necessitated a website, the website is now necessitating promotion. and what better way to promote a website than through a more popular website?

scream tradition
as mentioned in the previous post i did a piece for the 'public domain' show at tradition. the theme being classic skateboard graphics re-worked. this is my interpretation of the santa cruz screaming hand. the show opens in westlake village, ca on february 2nd. i'm realistic about the probability of any of the 10 or so readers of this blog going out to the opening, so i'm going ahead and putting the picture up here now.
